Teaching of Anatomy
Anatomy is the science that studies the structures of the human body and is considered the foundation of the entire art of medicine. Although the interest of anatomy implies the structure of organs, structure and function are closely related, as seen in the existing comparison between geography and history, or anatomy and physiology. The teaching of classical anatomy has been carried out in all universities around the world through methods of dissection of formalised cadaver parts. It is the established methodology in the anatomical milieu and, nowadays, it can vary in some components of the tissue or organ fixation solution.
The teaching of this important subject has been carried out in Universities all over the world where, in addition to theoretical classes, practical classes are given using anatomical parts: whole cadavers or their parts , prepared and stored in special vats in a 10% formalin solution. Among the courses that study human anatomy are: Medicine, Dentistry, Physical Education, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy, Nursing, Nutrition, Speech Therapy, Chiropractic, Biology, among others.
Education in general has evolved a lot with technology, making it easier for students to understand this much feared discipline. With access to the internet, anatomy students have a collection of images, videos and articles that help and complement the study of anatomy. Therefore, it should not be forgotten that all these means work only as auxiliaries and that the most important, without a doubt, is still the observation of anatomical parts.
The teaching of anatomy has been evolving gradually, with new cadaver conservation techniques, dissection methods and preparation of parts of all human body systems. Therefore, the corpse ends up being a material whose existence is essential, as it allows the focus on each organ or part of them. Their knowledge is the primary basis for the exercise of the students' future clinical and especially surgical practice.
