It is a light, spongy, irregular, odd bone located in the anterior part of the skull.

Features 4 parts:

  • 1 Horizontal Blade (Sieve)
  • 1 Perpendicular Blade
  • 2 Lateral Masses (labyrinths)



Horizontal Blade (Sieve)

  • Crista Galli – triangular process in the midline
  • Olfactory foramen – located next to the Galli crest and giving passage to the olfactory nerves

Perpendicular Blade

  • Flattened lamina that forms the medial wall of the nasal septum

Lateral Masses (Labyrinth)

  • Uncinate Process
  • Superior Nasal Conch
  • Middle Nasal Conch


The Ethmoid articulates with thirteen bones: Frontal (1), Sphenoid (1), Nasal (2), Lacrimal (2), Jaw (2), Palatine (2), Inferior Concha (2) and Vomer (1). ).
